How We Benefit at WE
Looking for a new (or first!) job can be a daunting experience. From resumes and cover letters to interviews and phone calls, the entire process can be overwhelming. However, something to keep in mind in the midst of the chaos is not only whether you’re right for this job, but is this job right for YOU?
It’s important to think about what a job can offer you and how working in that position will benefit you in your career goals. We wanted to take a moment to talk about some of the written and unwritten benefits of working at Waggener Edstrom, which will hopefully help as you think about what you may be looking for in a future job.
Healthy working environment
We often get so caught up in securing a job that we sometimes forget about how important it is to feel comfortable once you start working. When you’re spending 40+ hours a week in an office, you’re going to want to enjoy spending time with your coworkers and the office you’re in! Our favorite thing about WE is how welcoming everyone has been since our first day of the internship and how many friends we’ve already made. Coffee and lunch dates help break up a stressful day, we promise! When you love the people you’re working with, you’ll love what you’re working on even more!
Working with intelligent, passionate people
On a similar note, working alongside people who are also passionate, creative, intelligent and hardworking is something you should look for in any job you apply to. Working next to other go-getters will help inspire you and make you an even better employee and well-rounded person. We love having interesting and thought-provoking discussions with our fellow colleagues. No matter what course our conversations take, having them with inspirational coworkers who we also consider friends makes the work day that much more rewarding.
Learning and development courses
The ways you can continue to learn, grow and develop in your career should be something to consider when applying for a job. WE offers countless Learning & Development sessions throughout the year to help employees expand their knowledge and improve not only as PR pros, but as well-rounded individuals. WE recently hosted an L&D session with author Kevin Carrol who inspired the office with his simple, red rubber ball, and reminded us just how important it is to never stop playing and learning. The topics are constantly changing, which helps WE employees continue to grow and learn as well.
Medical and dental insurance
There’s no arguing how important insurance is. Medical bills can be crippling and hard to plan for. No matter how old you are you’ll be thankful to have insurance even if all you need is a preventive appointment (with insurance, free; without insurance, $250+). It also shows that a company cares about your well-being and safety, which we certainly appreciate. At WE you don’t have to wait 90 days or 6 months (we’ve been there, this happens!) to get covered, you can sign up immediately even as an intern. This is especially important for those of us joining the agency from other companies, or even those with families (yes, we have those too!).
Starting a 401K
We are not professional financial planners by any means, but we recognize the importance of starting early. Whether you’re just starting out or are a few years into your career, planning for your retirement can be daunting. If you’re fresh out of school, maybe you haven’t even thought about it yet. All it takes is a simple internet search to establish the importance of saving early, and WE helps you do it! WE even matches part of your contribution You may not thank yourself today, but forty years down the road you’ll be glad you took the time to find a company that invests in your future.
