AGENCY WELCOMES MARIA FAVORITO AS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND MARTINA SCHWARZKOPF, PH.D., AS ACCOUNT DIRECTOR TO EAST COAST TEAMS

SEATTLE — MAY 19, 2015 — Waggener Edstrom Communications (WE) today announced Maria Favorito and Martina Schwarzkopf have joined the expanding Healthcare sector team. Favorito joins as a senior vice president in Boston, and Schwarzkopf as an account director in New York. The appointments reflect the agency’s growing healthcare client base as well as expanding presence on the East Coast, a key market for the healthcare industry.

Waggener Edstrom’s Healthcare sector continues to gain momentum, resulting in top-line growth of 20 percent compared with the prior year. Growth has come with agency assignments from major pharmaceutical clients as well as Bay Area medical device companies Invuity and SI-BONE, San Diego-area health solutions company Millennium Health, and Los Angeles-area Amgen Foundation.

Favorito joins WE’s Boston office, a key hub of the healthcare team, which recently relocated to Post Office Square, in the heart of the city’s financial district. Her background includes senior agency positions at Feinstein Kean/Ogilvy and Cohn & Wolfe where she developed integrated communications programs for leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and nonprofit advocacy associations. Her expertise spans early-stage scientific communications to sophisticated branded programs designed to engage audiences across the healthcare ecosystem.

Schwarzkopf, who earned a Ph.D. in molecular biology and biochemistry before turning to a career in communications, brings expertise in scientific storytelling, media relations, competitive positioning and corporate communications. She joins from Russo Partners, where she led programs for clients across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices and diagnostics industries. Before joining Russo Partners, Martina was a postdoctoral fellow at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.

“With the complexity of the healthcare industry continuing to evolve, the depth and range of industry experience we offer our clients is critical, and one of our strongest assets,” said Aimee Corso, senior vice president Waggener Edstrom and Healthcare sector lead. “Blending our deep healthcare industry experts with talent from other key agency sectors of technology, consumer and social innovation is proving to be a powerful combination for our healthcare clients. Now, more than ever, an understanding of how technology may disrupt current models of care delivery, the role of consumers in the system, and the need to translate corporate responsibility and ultimately value to all stakeholders is critical when planning any campaign for a healthcare brand.”

The Waggener Edstrom Healthcare sector services a diverse set of healthcare clients of all sizes in the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices and diagnostics, payer, provider and health technology industries. The team has a core specialty in working with corporate and product brands that are embracing the shift to a healthcare system which is more accountable, affordable, efficient and oriented toward improving people’s health and well-being.
